The Te Ao Māori & Te Reo Māori Advisor will work closely and collaboratively with the Chief Service Experience Officer to provide the delivery of improved connections and experience for Māori through Te Ao Māori & Te Reo Māori.

This role is pivotal in exploring language and principles we use to consider and reflect Māori aspirations and equity within our work. 

About the role | Atu mo te mahi

The Te Ao Māori & Te Reo Māori Advisor translates artefacts into Te Reo Māori; with a particular focus on the COVID vaccination service.

  • Professional translation, interpretation and other language services including quality assessment, typesetting, transcription, editing, formatting and proofreading translations of documents and other written material from English to the Te Reo Māori
  • Ensure timely, accurate and complete artefacts, reports, documents are provided to stakeholders
  • Read material from the source language and rewrite it in the required (target) language
  • Check that the original meaning and feeling of the text is not lost
  • Ensure that technical terms are correctly translated
  • Apply an approach informed by tikanga and Te Reo Māori
  • Support and actively participate in projects, as required

 About you | Pehea koe

Qualifications and Experience

  • Ideally knowledge of Te Whare Tapa Whā (Māori model of health)
  • Ideally a min. of 3 years’ experience in a Kaupapa Māori role
  • Fluency in Te Reo me ōna tikanga and the English language
  • Ideally, a relevant qualification in Te Reo Māori

 Skills and Competence

  • A sound knowledge, understanding and application of Te Reo Māori and Tikanga
  • Proven ability to engage effectively with Māori and non-Māori and advise on equity focused approaches
  • Knowledgeable of health inequalities and priority populations
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage well with others and positively influence outcomes
  • A strong understanding of Government and the Treaty of Waitangi
  • Project and programme management capability

We manage inbound and outbound call centres in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch as well as remote teams working from their homes across the country.
